2016 Person of the year
Prestige Imports Vuelta a Dillon 20, 60 and 90 mile
fondo style road event names Alexi Grewal as 2016
Person of The Year.
Denver CO: Aspen born and bred 1984 Gold medalist-Summer Olympics
and 3 time Bob Cook Memorial Hill Climb winner Alexi Grewal will be
honored as the 2016 Person of the Year for the 5th annual Prestige
Imports Vuelta.
Grewal joins Ron Kiefel, Danny Van Haute, Timmy Duggan and Colorado
High School Cycling League’s Kate Rau as past recipients’ of the award.
Grewal went on to race professionally for the Panasonic, 7-Eleven and
Coors Light cycling teams during his career. In 2004 Grewal was elected
into the United States Bicycling Hall of Fame.
Event founder Rob Quinn comments: Last year Alexi showed up and
rode the event unannounced keeping up with a few JellyBelly riders
who were using the event as a training ride. At the last rest stop Alexi
was in a Porta Pottie and one of the guys said “man that older guy is
putting the hammer down” I asked if they knew who that was and they
did not. They were floored when I told them that’s the winner of the
1984 Gold Olympic Medal, Alexi Grewal, pacing you and your buddy.
